April 22-26, 2024 is Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week (APAW), a dedicated week to recognize, appreciate and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours.
Research shows that skilled and knowledgeable program staff are the backbone of program quality and are key to desired positive youth outcomes.
Why is it important to recognize Afterschool Professionals?
An estimated 7.8 million children participate in afterschool programs each year; for every child in an afterschool program, two more are waiting to get in. Every young person deserves quality afterschool experiences that positively impact their development. It takes skilled professionals to create these experiences. Because of the important role afterschool professionals play in kidsโ lives, they deserve recognition and support!

St. Landry Parish Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, April 11, 2024, due to the extensive damage caused by the recent storms, impacting many of our families.
All 12-month employees are asked to report to their respective school/site when they are able to do so safely. We understand this is a difficult time for our community, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility. The closure will allow time for families to address any storm impacts while allowing employees to ensure schools are prepared to reopen once conditions improve. Additional updates will be provided through our normal communication channels as more information becomes available. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate these challenging circumstances together.

Be Inspired, Be Determined, Be Unstoppable is exactly what these two amazing assistant principals are! Torie Vidrine PreK-4th AP and Heather Bob 5th - 8th AP are the reason for the many successes we experience on a daily basis at Lawtell Elementary. They take on any task with a smile and a 'let's get it done' attitude. They are in administration to positively impact students' learning ensuring students' success. They are inspired by students' efforts, determined to turn efforts into success, and unstoppable when it comes to positive results. As the leader of the school I am forever humble and grateful to have them as my Assistant Principals. Trojan Leaders they are!

Happy National Paraprofessionals Day! Today, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our SLP paraprofessionals who work tirelessly to support students and make a difference in our schools.
